Montessori recognised that children are naturally social and that, if they were allowed to develop according to their own individual needs, they would also exhibit great love and care for each other.

At Living Spring Montessori, we encourage every child to see himself or herself as an individual and we allow a natural harmony to develop in the school as a whole. We enjoy each other’s cultural differences and learn that the world is a rich and varied place full of different ways of looking, dressing and thinking. We believe that a mixed-age environment is vital. The many benefits of the mixed age group include older children gaining confidence through helping those younger than themselves and in turn, the younger ones learn by watching the older ones. The mixed age group also helps build an awareness of caring for others in a community. We encourage our children to work at their own pace either individually or in co-operation with others.
